Montana clematis are vigorous growing deciduous climbers and this variety produces masses of pink flowers in late spring and early summer. This clematis is in pruning group 1 meaning it needs very little to no pruning. It can be pruned lightly to keep it tidy and in shape. Clematis grow best with their tops in the sun but their base in the shade. This can be achieved simply by placing some stones around the bottom of the plant. It's best to plant the crown of the plant approx. 5cm below the surface of the soil as this encourages new shoots to grow from below ground level. These climbers are suitable for gardens with clay soil.
