The America's Army series is easily the most successful game-turned-recruiting tool in history, so it comes as no surprise that the Army is bankrolling a third edition to the franchise.

The creatively named America's Army 3, like its predecessors, is built on the latest technology from Epic Games -- in this case Unreal Engine 3.

Now the bad news: Though the official description of the game promises "new training levels" and greater avatar customization options it sound intensely similar to America's Army 2 (pictured above).

It could be a case of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it," or it could be laziness on the part of the game's developers, but either way the game is scheduled to be a free download so even if its terrible or derivative, you don't have to drop $50 to test it.

No specific release date is offered for the game, outside of a vague "2009."
